The life of iconic musician Miles Davis is one that has captivated filmmakers for years and has inspired more than one director to attempt to get a biopic moving. Don Cheadle is one of the people trying to make it a reality, and Screen International reports he might be close to a big step forward, with Ewan McGregor and Zoe Saldana eyeing lead roles in **Kill The Trumpet Player{
Sales company IM Global is putting together a package for the American Film Market that includes Cheadle’s directorial and acting services (he’ll play Davis) with former Davis quintet member Herbie Hancock on board to produce and provide crucial musical supervision.
"We're trying to shuffle it, without throwing history away," Cheadle told the Wall Street Journal last year. "It's not a biopic, per se. It's a gangster pic. It's a movie that Miles Davis would have wanted to star in.
"We're working with the family too and we have all the music we need. I don't think anyone's going to be making the kind of movie we're making. The bulk of it takes place in 1979, in a period where he actually wasn't playing. We traverse a lot of his life, but it's not a cradle to grave story." We’ll keep our fingers crossed he gets his wish at last.
