While he’s usually to be found starring in big laugh-fests like The Other Guys, Will Ferrell is also a fan of cropping up in smaller, more serious (but darkly comic) roles. Such was the case with Stranger than Fiction and now Everything Must Go, which has just pushed its first trailer out on to the web.

Go finds Ferrell as Nick Porter, a corporate salesman experiencing the worst day of his life. He’s fired from his job (and his attempt at revenge on his nonplussed paymasters goes somewhat wrong). He returns home to find that his wife has left him and, in doing so, has changed the locks on their house and dumped all of his possessions on the front lawn.

The only way for Nick to stay around – and to keep the more important items safe – is to hold an impromptu yard sale. In deep despair, Nick relapses into the alcoholism that has ruined his life, but then starts to realise that ridding himself of his seemingly valuable junk is actually helping him to get back on his feet. He’s soon making new friends and falling for the fetching Samantha (Rebecca Hall).

Adapted by director Dan Rush from a Raymond Carver short story, Everything Must Go has played the Toronto and London Film Festivals, and will be out in the US on May 6. There’s no UK date set yet. You canfind the trailer over at Apple.
