Even with its success on the stage, the adaptation of musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie has had a tricky journey to the screen, originally set up at 20th Century Studios, it has since been sold to Amazon, which plans to release it next month. Check out the latest trailer...
This is the story of aspiring drag queen Jamie New (Max Harwood), following his first steps into becoming a performer in Sheffield. While his classmates plan their livelihoods after they leave school, Jamie contemplates revealing his secret career ambition to become a fierce and proud drag queen. His best friend Pritti (Lauren Patel) and his loving mum (Sarah Lancashire) shower him with endless support, while local drag legend Miss Loco Chanelle (Richard E. Grant) mentors him toward his debut stage performance. But Jamie also has to contend with an unsupportive father (Ralph Ineson), an uninspired careers advisor (Sharon Horgan), and some ignorant school kids who attempt to rain on his sensational parade.
The film adaptation reunites the core creative trio of director Jonathan Butterell, writer Tom MacRae and musician Dan Gillespie Sells – and it looks to be a faithful take on the show, with the advantages a film can bring. Everybody's Talking About Jamie will arrive via Amazon Prime Video on 17 September.
