It may seem a little early to be talking about the Moulin Rouge DVD when it hasn’t even been released in UK cinemas, but having seen the film already, we were eager to ask Baz Luhrmann what goodies we could expect when the DVD hits these shores. The first question was whether Baz had even started work on it – but that was answered quickly. ‘I’ve just done the DVD,’ he told us, ‘so there’s the stuff that was left on the cutting room floor. I’ve added four extended dances, so where there were three minutes, you now have seven minutes. You’ll get the full tango,’ he added – referring to the scene in Moulin Rouge in which the Police song Roxanne is memorably translated into a foot-stomping tango piece. So could we expect any other extra material to turn up in the DVD? ‘There are a few deleted scenes, but they’re very small. Lots of spectacle that I couldn’t subjugate the story, so there’s a lot of spectacle on the DVD. I hope it’s OK,’ Baz added, ‘but it’s got a lot of extra stuff.’
