Despite the many and varied interpretations of the Robin Hood legend through the years, studios can’t get enough of the outlaw, and there have been several versions of his story drifting through development in the last couple of years. Lionsgate has pulled ahead with Robin Hood: Origins, which has Kingsman’s Taron Egerton trying on Lincoln Green. The company has found him a Maid Marian in Eve Hewson.

Winning the role over a big list of possible candidates, Hewson is aboard for what is being planned as a gritty, revisionist take on Hood’s story, with Joby Harold providing the script and Peaky Blinders’ Otto Bathurst directing. Marion will presumably not have found what she’s looking for until she meets Hood and love comes tumbling in Sherwood Forest, where the streets have no name.

With corruption rampant and a hero’s series badly needed in god’s country, the mothers of the disappeared will turn to Hood. If he can wing against all odds, it could be a beautiful day. Miss Sarajevo.*

Now that a scheduling snafu over Egerton between Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman sequel and this new adventure, Origins will start shooting in the summer after Kingsman wraps earlier in the year. As for Hewson, she’s back on the small screen in the second season of Steven Soderbergh-produced hospital drama The Knick, which starts today. And she has a role in Steven Spielberg’s Bridge Of Spies, which is out in UK cinemas on November 27.

**Sorry, could only come up with so many reasons to include U2 songs thanks to Hewson’s parentage. *
