Evangeline Lilly’s efforts kicking Orc ass in Middle-earth clearly impressed Edgar Wright, because the World’s End director is now in early talks with the actress to take a lead role in **Ant-Man.

Wright’s picks for the film have been interesting so far, with Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Michael Pena all aboard. Lilly would continue that, bringing some much needed extra female energy to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

How exactly she fits into Wright and co-writer Joe Cornish’s script hasn’t been revealed; in true Marvel film tradition, much of the plot remains locked behind a door marked “Seeekrits.”

But according to Variety’s report, speculation is that she might be the daughter of original Ant-Man Hank Pym (Douglas) and a potential sparring/romantic partner for Rudd’s Scott Lang. Though Pym doesn’t have kids in the comic books, it’s certainly not unheard of for the films to make changes where necessary. Alternatively, given that the most famous female character in Ant-Man's life is a certain Janet Van Dyne, AKA Wasp, could we potentially be seeing her set up here?

Of course, we’ll have to wait and see if she signs before anyone can really ponder what role she’ll play. Wright is set to start the cameras cranking in April on the film, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 17 next year. Lilly will be back as warrior Elf Tauriel in The Hobbit: There And Back Again, which arrives on December 19.
