Ethan Hawke Finds New Horror

It would appear that Ethan Hawke, often a fan of cropping up in low-budget indie romantic comedies, is giving the micro-cash horror genre a try, signing up to star in an untitled horror that The Exorcism of Emily Rose’s Scott Derrickson is getting set to make.

Derrickson, who also has the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still under his belt, has been flirting with any number of possible projects in the couple of years since he turned a CG Gort loose on the world. He’s been attached to the likes of Paradise Lost, horror thriller The Living and a take on the Biblical Goliath story, but nothing has reached the production stage yet.

Now, though, he’s moving full speed ahead on the nameless horror script, co-written with C Robert Cargill. The plot is a strict secret (what, not even a hint? C’mon!) but we do know that producer Jason Blum, who knows a thing or two about micro budget horror after Paranormal Activity and Insidious, is overseeing the finances and production.

And while it’ll likely stay wrapped in secrecy until Derrickson and co decide it’s time for the big reveal, the director has let slip that he’ll be starting shooting on September 19.

Hawke, meanwhile, was last seen in vampire thriller Daybreakers. He’s got a cameo appearance in the Total Recall remake and also has a role in Richard Linklater’s long-gestating Boyhood project, a drama that takes a Seven Up! approach to filming a lad each year as he grows. We wouldn’t expect that one for a while yet, though…
