Low budget horror is doing solid business for studios at the moment, partly thanks to the efforts of the Blumhouse team. But other companies have long latched on to the idea, with Sony and producer Neil H. Moritz bringing us Escape Room this year. Thanks to $119 million from a $9 million budget, a sequel is being built.
Escape Room's set up was relatively simple – six strangers, played by the likes of Deborah Ann Woll, Jay Ellis, Taylor Russell, Logan Miller and Tyler Labine are invited to take part in a complicated escape room. But it's not long before they discover that whoever is behind this room knows more about them than they expected, and if they want to survive, they'll have to figure out what that means...
The first film did leave some dangling threads that practically screamed "sequel", so it's likely that returning director Adam Robitel and writer Bragi F. Schut already have some idea of what the follow-up will be, but details haven't yet been released.
