John Cena. Mr Kennedy. Steve Austin. Eric McCormack. One of these things is not like the others. Did you figure it out? Yes, McCormack is the erstwhile star of Will & Grace and not a featured member of the World Wrestling Entertainment family. We're not even sure he watches wrestling. But he has, however, won the lead in the company’s new film, Barricade.
It would appear that the WWE team is looking to break free of the idea that it only casts wrestlers as the stars of its movies and has struck a deal with McCormack for the supernatural thriller.
Fido’s Andrew Currie is calling the shots on this one, which will follow a psychiatrist trying to come to terms with the sudden death of his wife. Seeking a little peace and quiet, he takes his kids to a remote cabin in the woods to spend time getting the family back together.
But, because it’s a remote cabin in the woods and those things never seem to come without problems, the three are soon being terrorised by unseen forces and the father must turn from grief-stricken family man to action hero fighting to save his children.
While we’re not quite sure we picture McCormack getting tough, he did come close to action with the TV remake of The Andromeda Strain. And maybe this is his attempt to re-invent himself as the next Jason Statham…
