Eric Idle created the musical Monty Python's Spamalot loosely based on Monty Python And The Holy Grail. Now that musical is itself going to become a movie.
Idle is writing the script, which channels the Arthurian legends that powered Holy Grail and gives them a typically madcap spin. The musical has been a big hit, running in London, Broadway and various countries and spawning several tours.
20th Century Fox is behind the effort, hiring acclaimed Broadway director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw, who has scored Tony awards and nominations for shows such as The Book Of Mormon, The Drowsy Chaperone, the new Mean Girls musical and worked on Spamalot itself, under director Mike Nichols.
