Eric’s Emigrating

For Aussie film Romulus, My Father

Eric Bana has signed on for Romulus, My Father, which means that once he's done filming Munich with Spielberg, he'll be heading back to his homeland (which, for those not paying attention for the last five or more years, is Australia) to commence preparatory work on the project.

It's all news to us, and apparently it's a biopic based on the memoirs of Raimond Gaita. The film will tell the story of a family who go to start afresh in a hostile country. The mother then dies, and the main part of the story focuses on the relationship between father and son thereafter.

The script is from first time feature screenwriter Nick Drake (no, not that one), and is to be directed by Richard Roxburgh. You may remember Richard (another Aussie) from such support roles in big, disappointing Hollywood films as Van Helsing, Mission: Impossible 2, and The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but trust us – the boy's a damn fine actor, and he knows what he's doing. If you need any proof of the extent of his acting abilities, check out – on region 4 DVD – a TV miniseries he starred in by the name of Blue Murder. Richard is also a theatre director, and while this is his debut feature, we have great faith in his abilities.

We're not yet aware of anyone else signing on in front of or behind the camera, but with the healthy pedigree of Australian films coming along (Wolf Creek, and keep your eyes peeled for The Proposition), we shall be watching this with great interest.
