The latest comic franchise to emerge from the Marvel stable has finally received a lead in the form of Chopper star Eric Bana. The Australian comedian will see tempers fray as The Hulk's less toned alter-ego, Dr Bruce Banner. Landing surprise critical acclaim as the infamous title character of hit Australian drama Chopper, Bana went on to land a role in Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down. Having lost out on Ghost Rider to Nicolas Cage, Bana has guaranteed his arrival in the big time with The Hulk, one of the hottest comic book roles to hit Hollywood. Ang Lee's follow-up to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Hulk will see Bana play one half of the title character's personality, with the lime-skinned behemoth to be a combination of live action and CGI. While the 80s TV series employed the flexing physique of bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno to play the brute, Hollywood's insistence that bigger is better will require that the anything-but-jolly green giant undergo some serious digital enhancement before being allowed to tear up buildings on the big screen. Work on the film is scheduled to begin in March.
