In this week's battle of the sequels, Denzel Washington's tough Robert McCall saw off Amanda Seyfried and her ABBA-warbling friends as The Equalizer 2 topped the box office charts, earning an estimated $35.8 million

Though Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! had been predicted to win the weekend, it was overcome by the latest collaboration between Washington and director Antoine Fuqua, the first sequel the former has been a part of. Still, Here We Go Again was snapping at McCall's heels, taking in $34.8 million. The new movies pushed Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation to third, with the animation making $23.1 million. Fourth was Ant-Man And The Wasp, on $16.1 million, while Incredibles 2 took in $11.5 million to round out the top five.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom fell to sixth place, earning 11 million ahead of Skyscraper in seventh with $10.9 million. At eighth we find The First Purge, with the prequel scoring $4.8 million.

There was bad news for the other Blumhouse film in the charts, new release Unfriended: Dark Web, which kicked off its box office run with a disappointing $3.4 million. Still, given it was made for $1 million (before marketing), it's not such a problem. And at 10th, indie sensation Sorry To Bother You made $2.8 million after three weeks on release.
