It’s battled Arnold Schwartzenegger. It’s faced Danny Glover, Danny Trejo and Adrien Brody. It’s fought the Xenomorph twice (though the less said about that, the better). And now the original ugly mother is back. The Predator is one of the all-time great movie monsters, and it’s making a major comeback in the sequel the original has always deserved, courtesy of Shane Black’s The Predator. When the dreadlocked reptilian demanded his own cover, Empire was in no position to argue. Here’s the newsstand cover of our August issue, featuring the classic creature in its shiny new armour.
As well as an on-set report of the sequel — talking the new ‘upgraded’ Predator, reshoots and pink helicopters with Black and the cast — we’re celebrating 30 years since the first film stalked into UK cinemas in 1988 with unseen photos and amazing stories from the original production. Elsewhere in the issue we take a closer look at Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, revisit the making of Saturday Night Fever, and get fresh looks at Fantastic Beasts 2, Widows, and much more. Oh, and this time The Ranking is a real biggie, going back a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
Empire’s Predator issue hits the shelves on Thursday 12 July, and will also be available online here.
