Even by their own impressive standards, 2018 has been a bumper year for Marvel Studios — first Black Panther conquered, then Avengers: Infinity War razed everything to the ground. Now Ant-Man and the Wasp is zooming in — not only a much-needed palate cleanser after Thanos’ assault, but the first time one of Marvel’s female heroes has had the opportunity to soar just as high as her male co-star. Empire’s July issue, on shelves on June 14, puts the duo under a microscope, taking a closer look at this year’s smallest blockbuster. There’s plenty more inside too — here’s an early look.
Ant-Man and the Wasp
For its 20th film, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has finally given a female superhero title billing — in Hope Van Dyne’s own words, it’s about damn time. Empire caught up with Evangeline Lilly and Paul Rudd to talk co-headlining, the comedown of Infinity War, and the upcoming musical Avengers 4: Xanadu.
Mission: Impossible — Fallout
The latest Mission: Impossible re-teams Tom Cruise with writer-director-producer Christopher McQuarrie. The man behind the camera talks the big emotions and bigger action of Fallout — and how his partnership with Cruise made the sixth Mission possible.
Simon Pegg
He’s already had a big year starring for Steven Spielberg in Ready Player One, and he’s planning to take on more dramatic roles and direct his own film. But the last few years haven’t been plain sailing for Simon Pegg, as he reveals in a confessional Empire Interview.
The Elephant Man
In an exclusive excerpt from his new book Room to Dream, iconic director David Lynch recalls the trials of making his 1980 classic The Elephant Man.
