It was a good day for a lot of people involved in TV series, miniseries and TV movies, as the 2016 Emmy Award nominations were announced with a host of new names joining past winners such as Game Of Thrones, Fargo, Luther and Veep.
Some of the newcomers included shows such as The Americans, which finally scored nominations for leads Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, and Aziz Ansari, whose Netflix series Master Of None landed on the Outstanding Comedy Series list and scored a nom for himself.
The residents of Westeros were the recipients of the most nominations again with 23, but there were impressive showings from The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Fargo's second season, which both tallied 22.
Mr. Robot and star Rami Malek both feature in the drama categories, while Sarah Paulson scored dual nominations for her work on The People V. O.J. Simpson and American Horror Story: Hotel. Tom Hiddleston and Team Night Manager also won nominations.
Surprise omissions? No sign of The Daily Show (a previous nominee and winner across several years) in Variety Talk Series and neither of Billions' leads, Paul Giamatti or Damian Lewis cracked the list on their first try for the series.
