Though her career got a brief boost from the one-two punch of exposure that was The Day After Tomorrow and Phantom Of The Opera, Emmy Rossum’s big screen roles since then haven’t exactly done her many favours (the less said about D****ragonball: Evolution, the better). But she has had rather more luck with telly work, appearing in the successful US version of Shameless. Now she’ll be hoping supernatural romance adventure Beautiful Creatures re-ignites her film CV.

Richard LaGravenese has adapted Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s young adult novel and will direct the tale of two star-crossed teen lovers (newcomers Alice Englert and Jack O’Connell) who dig into the dark secrets of their history, their families and their entire town.

Emma Thomson and Viola Davis are the experienced hands on board to support the kids and Rossum will be providing some competition – she’s Englert’s cousin Ridley, who dabbles in dark magic, became a witch on her 16th birthday and is now one of the girl’s worst enemies.

LaGravenese is aiming to have the cameras cranking this April in New Orleans. Rossum is also attached to crime drama Way Down South, which is scheduled to shoot around the same time also in New Orleans, so it looks like she could be splitting her time.
