Here’s a piece of casting you may not have seen coming: Emma Thompson is in negotiations to join the team making **Men In Black III (or Men In Black 3D, as we’re sure Sony would want us to call it).

Yes, unlikely as it might seem, Thompson really is finding space in her schedule to play a forthright MIB operative codenamed Agent Oh.

The plot of the third MIB outing sees Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones back as Agents Jay and Kay, though the majority of the story takes place in 1969, with Josh Brolin as a younger version of Kay (which makes us wonder whether the legendarily grumpy Jones only agreed to return if he was able to cut his screen time down).

Our heroes will be dealing with an intergalactic menace played by Flight of the Conchords/Dinner for Schmucks’ Jemaine Clement, though for now the details of what exactly he is and what he’s up to have been revealed only to a select few, and all those people are subjected to the Neuralyzer before they leave the studio.

Thompson’s character will be trying to contain a prison break (we’re going to go ahead and assume that Clement’s character might be involved in that somehow).

Barry Sonnenfeld is back behind the camera for this second sequel, which we’re really, truly, hoping returns to the fun vibe of the original film and doesn’t fall victim to the faded carbon copy shenanigans of the first sequel. Filming gets underway later this month in New York.
