Emily Blunt Signs For Looper

He already has Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt signed up for his latest, twisty sci-fi tale Looper, but Rian Johnson’s crusade to find decent actors continues. And his latest hire is a great choice, with Emily Blunt joining the cast.

Looper follows a group of killers who work for a crime syndicate in the future. Their novel approach to assassination is to have their victims shuttled back from even further ahead in time so they can be offed and disposed of without anyone realising who they are.

Trouble is, Gordon-Levitt’s character realises that one of his latest assignments is the future version of himself (played by Willis) and has second thoughts, letting the man escape. Willis himself has a mission to kill a boy whose death will mean his salvation in his own time.

The Wrap expands on the news first revealed in a Production Weekly tweet (one which has since vanished from their feed), reporting that Blunt will play a single mother who just so happens to have given birth to the boy in question. It's not her first experience with tricky-concept sci-fi: she's about to be seen in The Adjustment Bureau with Matt Damon, and of course she already played with assassination in Wild Target.

Johnson is getting set to shoot the movie in New Orleans in January, and we’ll see it sometime in 2012. Anyone else want to chip in to invent the “looping” tech so we can travel forward and see the film now? Just don’t buy plutonium from some Libyans who are in need of a bomb. That never ends well.
