We already know that A) Christopher Nolan has landed on the focus for his next film, which will be about conflicted atom bomb scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, B) that Universal will distribute and C) that Cillian Murphy is playing the main man. Now we can add the fact that Emily Blunt looks likely to join him in the cast.
The film, currently called simply Oppenheimer (keeping with Nolan's love of brief titles), finds Nolan adapting the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph And Tragedy Of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. It'll chart how Oppenheimer played a key role in the creation of atomic weapons, yet later came to have complicated feelings about their deadly power. He lobbied for international control of nuclear power and opposed the creation of the even more destructive hydrogen bomb.
While Deadline says that Blunt's in talks, it usually means they're busy hammering out a deal and the news wouldn't have "leaked" unless all involved were confident that she'll join the film to play Oppenheimer's wife. The film has already locked down a 21 July, 2023 release date. And yes, this means you may sound the A Quiet Place: Part II klaxon.
