MGM is hoping it can wrangle the next big book adaptation drama with a film based on Jojo Moyes' bestseller Me Before You. A crucial part of a film like this is finding the leads, and the company has Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin in negotiations.
Me Before You boasts a first-draft script by Moyes that has since seen new work from The Fault In Our Stars duo Scott Neustadter and Michael H, Weber, and Thea Sharrock on board to direct.
The story follows small-town girl Lou, who has been drifting between dead-end jobs until she meets Will, a successful type who is wheelchair-bound after an accident. He’s contemplating suicide until he hires her as his caretaker, and she becomes convinced that she can prove to him that life is worth living, sparking a series of adventures.
Clarke, of course, spends months of the year wrangling dragons and ruling kingdoms on Game Of Thrones. She’ll next be seen on the big screen in Terminator: Genisys as Sarah Connor, mother to mankind’s best hope for battling the machines. Claflin has The Riot Club due on September 19 (there’s a new clip of him in action here) followed by Love, Rosie on October 22 and the just slightly anticipated The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, which is set for release on November 20.
