If this year’s garden conflict ‘toon Gnomeo & Juliet just didn’t feature quite enough of Elton John’s music to satisfy you, you must be one hell of an Elton fan. So you’ll likely be happy to learn that John’s Rocket Pictures is gearing to craft a musical/biographical fantasy film about his life and career, called Rocketman.
Lee Hall, who collaborated with John on the Billy Elliot musical, is on board to write the script for the movie, which will follow the man from his early days as a child piano prodigy through his wild costumes and best-selling career. Though he’s going to be actively involved as a producer, Elton apparently wants to make sure that the rough edges of his life aren’t smoothed off, though we do wonder how much of his behind-the-scenes diva attitude will make it to the screen.
“Rocketman will be a radically different kind of biopic,” Rocket Pictures’ Steve Hamilton Shaw said in a statement picked up by Deadline. “It will be as unique as Elton’s life, told in a non-linear and hyper-visual manner that will transport people through the many intense experiences, some wonderful, some not, that helped define Elton as an artist, musician and man.”
There’s no word of who may direct the eventual pic and of course there’s the issue of who will play EJ at his various ages. Any suggestions, folks?
