Once headed for the big screen, the adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's graphic novel The Umbrella Academy is now smartly being turned into a TV series by Netflix. The first lead for the series is now in place, as Ellen Page will star.
Jeremy Slater wrote the original pilot script, which adapt Way and Bá's stories, which follow the estranged members of the eponymous, dysfunctional family of superheroes. The members – Luther, Diego, Allison, Vanya, Klaus and Number Five – must work together to solve the mystery of their father's death and try to avoid further tension thanks to their wildly different personalities and abilities.
Page will play Vanya, the black sheep of the family, the only one of the children adopted by the late Ronald Hargreeves who has no supernatural powers. She's introverted and insecure and looking to find her place in this world. Fargo producer Steve Blackman is running the show with Way on as a fellow producer.
Page most recently showed up in the Flatliners remake, and has added her voice to family 'toon Robodog. We can but hope her experience on the show will be better than her first superhero role, as she detailed in a recent Facebook post.
