After navigating a back-stabbing world in The Neon Demon, Elle Fanning seems ready to delve into another. She's in talks to star in the adaptation of Teresa Toten's YA novel Beware That Girl.
This one is at an early stage, and doesn't yet have a director or scriptwriter attached. The story has echoes of Gone Girl, but set at an elite Manhattan private school (so Gone Gossip Girl, then?) We follow Kate, a scholarship student who inveigles herself into friendships with wealthy classmates. One such target is Olivia, an "it" girl from a rich family who has her own dark secrets. And matters come to a head when a handsome and charming new member of staff joins the school.
Deadline's report doesn't mention which role Fanning will take if she does make a deal to star. She'll next be seen in Ben Affleck's Live By Night, due 13 January, and 20th Century Women, which is out on 20 January.
