Though it looked like based-on-truth drama once known as Letters From Rosemary had gathered a firm team in star Emma Stone and director Sam Gold, the usual development wobbles have seen both depart the film. But it appears to be back on track, with Elisabeth Moss on to play the lead and The Lunchbox director Ritesh Batra as director.

Nick Yarborough's script, which began life as a well-regarded spec and was snapped up by production company Anonymous Content, is now known as A Letter From Rosemary Kennedy. It tells the story of Rose Marie (also known as "Rosemary") Kennedy, the daughter of Joseph Kennedy Sr., Rose Fitzgerald. Rosemary was President John F. Kennedy's eldest sister, and showed signs of mental disability that the family kept hidden. When she was 23, her father arranged for Rosemary to be one of the first people to receive a prefrontal lobotomy, but its failure left her permanently incapacitated. Her experiences did at least help future generations.

Moss, of course, has been winning awards aplenty for her work on The Handmaid's Tale, and has worked on Old Man And The Gun with director David Lowery. She's also planning to reunite with her Listen Up Philip director Alex Ross Perry on new drama Her Smell.
