Elijah Wood is a huge music fan. In fact, the 26-year old actor takes his music very seriously indeed. In 2005, he founded indie label Simian Records which has since overseen the release of a slew of rock-related singles and albums. Despite this foray into the heady world of rock n’roll, everyone’s favourite hobbit has still taken the time to blitz the big screen, most conspicuously as the rather bitey Kevin in Sin City and the definitely side-burny William in Emilio Estevez’s Bobby. With these two loves in mind, it should come as no real surprise that Wood has just been chosen to play Punk-icon and general topless-man-covered-in-blood, Iggy Pop.
New biopic The Passenger will concentrate on the Rock legend's early years with seminal garage-punk outfit The Stooges – a band that released three era-defining records before decaying under a mountain of hard drugs and bad blood. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how Wood prepares himself for the shoot, especially considering Iggy is man who used to quite regularly digest huge quantities of high-grade LSD, smear himself in peanut butter and fling himself headfirst into the baying crowd. Still, Wood should be used to being pushed to his physical limits – don't forget, he had to walk around in those big hairy feet for years.
The Passenger is set for release next year.
