Elijah Wood Has Cooties

All right, all right, stop sniggering. Elijah Wood doesn’t have some playground infection. He’s actually locked in a deal to produce a horror movie called Cooties. It’s all part of a package announced by new genre distribution team Synchronicity Entertainment, which is also touting a new film starring John Cusack called Due Process.

Let’s start with Cooties (seriously, stop giggling). It’ll be one of the first projects that Wood is backing (and may star in) via his Woodshed company. And it boasts a solid gory pedigree, since it comes from the bloody keyboard of Saw writer / executive producer Leigh Whannell.

Ace Norton has megaphone duties for the new film, which finds a mysterious virus striking a school and turning the kids into a swarm of savages. Only an unlikely hero can lead a band of teachers against the monstrous spawn, in a sort of inverse take on The Faculty. Hhhm…. Kids acting like obnoxious monsters? It’ll spread far before anyone notices. The cameras will begin whirring in April next year.

As for Due Process, that follows two bankers who head out to an isolated farm in order to foreclose it. But when they arrive, they’re not prepared for what lurks within. Paul Currie is directing that one, working from a script by Anthony Derrico. All being well, shooting is set for January.
