Ever since it was announced last year, the latest attempt to make a new Toxic Avenger movie has slowly been putting its cast together. Peter Dinklage is in the title role, while Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige and Kevin Bacon are also aboard. And the newest recruits? Elijah Wood and Nighty Night's Julia Davis.
Macon Blair, who made his directorial debut with I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore (Wood appeared in that too), is writing and directing this update Troma's 1984 schlock classic. The original film follows struggling everyman janitor Melvin, who is pushed into a vat of toxic waste. He's transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed. Spoofing superhero tropes, it became a flagship brand for low budget studio Troma, spawning sequels, a stage musical, a comic and a kids' cartoon series.
With the casting moving along quickly, this one should be shooting soon.
