Jason Isaacs joins Marvel adaptation

While all the comic book movie hullabaloo has been focusing on the likes of Batman Begins, Superman and Fantastic Four, Elektra, the Fox/Marvel spin-off from Daredevil featuring Jennifer Garner's hot ninja temptress, has been quietly bubbling along. The Rob Bowman picture has been shooting in Vancouver for the last few weeks, and today came confirmation that Jason Isaacs - the nicest Brit in showbiz! - has joined the cast. Intriguingly, though, Isaacs isn't playing a villain for once, at least at first glance. He'll play McCabe, an agent who works with Garner's resurrected Elektra as she battles to defend a man she was sworn to kill (Goran Visjnic) against the massed ranks of her former employers, the shit-scary ninja organisation, Order Of The Hand. Isaacs' role is believed to be about cameo size at the moment, but it consolidates the decent cast - as well as Garner and Visnjic, Terence Stamp is on board as Elektra's blind mentor Stick, and Will Yun Lee will play the bad guy, Kirigi - leader of The Hand. The film, based largely on Frank Miller's classic Elektra: Assassin storyline, will also explain how Elektra - who was thoroughly filleted by Colin Farrell's Bullseye at the end of last year's Daredevil - is still alive, although Ben Affleck's DD won't make an appearance. Which, given his recent box office performances, might be something of a relief for Fox. Elektra will be out early next year, forming part of Marvel's assault on the 2005 box office, including Tim Story's Fantastic Four, Mark Steven Johnson's Ghost Rider (starring Nicolas Cage), and a mooted version of Iron Man, possibly starring Tom Cruise.
