Sahara director Breck Eisner has signed on the proverbial dotted line to do a remake of classic 3-D creature feature The Creature From The Black Lagoon.
The original saw a team of archaeologists exploring the Amazon, terrorised by the Gil Man, played in a big old suit by Ricou Browning and Ben Chapman in the original. The remake will take place in the present day and will be produced and penned by Gary Ross (Pleasantville, Seabiscuit), whose father Arthur A. Ross wrote the screenplay for the original.
“As a kid, I remember loving Jack Arnold’s original version of this film,” Eisner said. “What I really want to do is update an iconic image from the ‘50s and bring in more of the sci-fi sensibility of Alien and John Carpenter’s The Thing.”
Shooting will take in a Central/South American location as well as the US.
