After a few years when he was either not getting screenplays produced, or was suffering because the films made from his screenplays were utter bobbins (say hello, Blood And Chocolate; how’s it going, The Brothers Grimm?), 2008 has been one hell of a year for Ehren Kruger.
The 35 year-old screenwriter first bagged a gig writing the Transformers sequel, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. Then along came a job writing Torso for David Fincher. Then, in June, he set up an adaptation of Jennifer Egan’s supernatural novel, The Keep (not to be confused with the Michael Mann movie of the same name), over at Rogue, with the idea that he would write, direct and produce.
And now he’s at it again.
Kruger has snapped up the rights to Boston Teran’s crime novel, God Is A Bullet, with an eye to adapting the screenplay. Once that’s done, he’ll shop it around Hollywood and hopefully find a buyer.
The book follows a California lawman who must go undercover to rescue his kidnapped daughter. Sounds pretty lean, and mean – Kruger is a decent writer, so let’s hope that this one turns out ok.
Kruger will co-produce the movie with his partner, Daniel Bobker and Bradley Bell, who bought the rights to the novel for a six-figure sum.
