Since co-writers/directors Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick rose to instant indie fame with massive smash horror** The Blair Witch Project **back in 1999, it’s seemed like the filmmakers have lived in the film’s shadow, never quite making something as compelling. Sanchez is hoping he can break that curse with his latest project, horror thriller Possession.

According to Variety, the new film will tread the line between demonic possession and pure psychosis, with a tale of scary things happening in a small town tied to the terrible power contained within one young woman.

Sanchez penned the script with regular collaborator Jamie Nash and hopes to have the thing shooting in Maryland (his familiar stomping grounds) this October.

Despite the PR burst that was Blair Witch, Sanchez hasn’t exactly made a load of compelling follow-ups. Several of the films he’s directed since have gone straight to video, with only a couple (Altered and Seventh Moon) actually making it into cinemas.

Last year, he announced plans to dip back into the Witch well with a third outing, though there’s been no news since that first PR release. Chances are he’ll be hoping Possession does well enough to scare up some interest…
