Modern-day Greece might think it’s in bad shape what with all the financial shenanigans, but in ancient times it had it much rougher, with invading armies looking to burn everything to the ground. Thank goodness, then, that it might just have recruited Joel Edgerton to fight against the Persians in 300 spin-off Battle Of Artemisia.

Edgerton, who is about to battle another dangerous force – The Thing – on our screens, is in talks for the role of Themistocles, the general who led his soldiers to victory against the Persians in 480 BC.

Noam Murro is the man Warner Bros. has chosen to direct the film, which Zach Snyder and Kurt Johnstad have been busy adapting from Frank Miller’s graphic novel.

If he does take on the role, it’ll be another interesting choice for Edgerton, who has a variety of projects coming up. After The Thing, he’ll be seen in Wish You Were Here, The Odd Life Of Timothy Green and Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.

Battle Of Artemisia will shoot next year for a 2013 release date.
