There were plenty of hugely exciting new films to look forward to in 2020 before the Coronavirus pandemic unfolded – and one of the most tantalising was the prospect of a new movie from Edgar Wright. But, as with many of this year’s most anticipated releases, the arrival of Last Night In Soho was pushed back amid the global health crisis. It was only supposed to be a matter of months away (it initially had a late September release date), but was pulled from schedules with the fate of many cinemas still in question.

The good news is, we now have a new Last Night In Soho release date. The bad news is, it’s not until 23 April 2021 – but it’s sure to be worth await. And there is more good news, because in announcing the updated release plan, Wright released a brand new shot from the film featuring his co-lead star Anya Taylor-Joy playing opposite Matt Smith. “Haunted by someone else’s past, but we’ll see you in the future… It’s true, #LastNightInSoho is not quite finished yet due to Covid 19,” Wright wrote. “But, I’m excited for you all to experience it, at a big screen near you, on April 23, 2021.”

The film marks Edgar Wright’s first foray into all-out psychological horror, citing the likes of Don’t Look Now and Repulsion as influences. Details of the plot remain under wraps, though it involves time-twiddling elements and is partly set in 1960s London. We’ll find out the full story next spring.
