Though he’s largely attempting to reassemble the Silver Linings Playbook ensemble for his next film, Joy, David O. Russell is open to people he hasn’t worked with before. He’s just cast Edgar Ramirez in a key role{
Jennifer Lawrence is starring as real-life inventor Joy Mangano, a struggling single mother with three kids to support who has spent most of her life tinkering with gadgets she hopes will help make money. She hit it big with the Miracle Mop, which turned her into a fixture on the Home Shopping Network and made her a fortune.
Ramirez is set to play her charming but untrustworthy husband, a man she eventually divorces. Russell already also has Robert De Niro – a veteran of Silver Linings and **American Hustle **– on as Joy’s father.
The director has also rewritten a script that originated with Bridesmaids’ Annie Mumolo, and is looking to start shooting this February. Ramirez was last seen in horror thriller Deliver Us From Evil and has recently worked on the** Point Break** remake, taking over Patrick Swayze’s iconic role of Bodhi. He’ll also appear in boxing biopic Hands Of Stone.
