Some people will do anything to get into movies. Take Daniel Sadek, for example. His is not a name that instantly springs to mind when considering great moments in cinema. But he might be once Redline crosses the finishing line.
The racing thriller – which is apparently planned as a more realistic take on the likes of The Fast & The Furious – has put Eddie Griffin (of Deuce Bigalow and Date Movie “fame”) and Nathan “Wolf Creek” Phillips on to the starting grid for stunt coordinator-turned-helmer Andy Chen to direct.
So far, so not much about Sadek. But here’s the multi-million dollar rub. Not only is the real estate maven ponying up $26 million to finance the film, he’s also letting them race real cars from his private collection. The sporty likes of a Ferrari Scagletti, Enzo Ferrari and two McLaren F1s will be speeding around racetracks for high-adrenaline scenes. And in further proof of the old adage about a fool and his money, he’s letting the production wreck one of his $200,000 Porsches. It’s okay, though. He has two.
"We want to do the real deal," Sadek said. "We don't want to do CGI. We thought it would create some hype. People will know we're destroying a real Porsche - not a model, but a real one." Say it with us: the man’s got balls. Also: madder than a bag of sparrows.
