Though it's still not clear exactly where the story will go, the sequel to 2014's Maleficent is moving ahead at all speed. The latest piece of the puzzle is a threat for Angelina Jolie's title character to face, and Deadpool's Ed Skrein is taking that role.

Variety's report on the casting offers no details as to what character Skrein will play, but he'll face off against Jolie and Elle Fanning as Maleficent and Aurora.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge (AKA Dead Men Tell No Tales) director Joachim Rønning is calling the shots for this one, working from a script by Jez Butterworth and Linda Woolverton. The original made more than $758 million worldwide, so the pressure is on the sequel to deliver.

Skrein has a few movies headed our way, including Alita: Battle Angel (due 26 December) and Barry Jenkins' follow up to Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk.
