Judd Apatow, who directed The 40-Year-Old Virgin, has found a new film to produce.

Paramount has snatched up the rights to Rodney Rothman’s project Early Bird. The film started life as a book based on Rothman’s life after losing a writing job at The Late Show With David Letterman. US TV channel NBC bought it as a possible series pilot, but the series was never produced.

Now the film will follow a writer in his late 20s who loses a television writing job. He moves into an old people’s community in Florida and learns to love the laidback lifestyle.

There’s no word yet on who’ll direct the film. Apatow has just produced Will Ferrell’s next movie, racing comedy High, Wide And Handsome.
