Dystopian young adult novel adaptation The Maze Runner is in the process of gathering up the young cast required to bring it to life. Now 20th Century Fox has announced – via Deadline – that Dylan O’Brien has scored the key role of Thomas.

With a script written by Noah Oppenheim and then worked on by Grant Meyers and TS Nowlin, **The Maze Runner **is drawn from James Dashner’s book, the first of a trilogy.

Thomas is a young man who wakes up in an elevator with zero memories (except for his name) as he’s being transported to a strange place boasting a massive maze. He meets a group of similar lads all looking for a way out who begin to realise that Thomas could be their key to escape.

Wes Ball will kick off calling the shots next month in New Orleans and Will Poulter, Kaya Scodelario, Aml Ameen and Thomas Brodie-Sangster are already all aboard.

O’Brien is part of the cast of the US TV drama based on Teen Wolf and will be seen on the big screen as part of Shawn Levy’s The Internship, which lands here on July 4.
