Dwayne Johnson in San Andreas

If you thought The Rock was finished making the earth roll with San Andreas, prepare for more seismic madness. New Line has hired writers to start figuring out a sequel.

Yes, it turns out that the film's box office success turned on a green light at the company, and now Neil Widener and Gavin James are the people currently thinking up ways that the planet's tectonic plates can start to shake and shimmy once again. Exactly what will go down (or up) is still in the realms of speculation, but The Hollywood Reporter has heard that it'll expand the story globally to include the Ring of Fire, the famous chain of fault lines and volcanoes encircling the Pacific Ocean. Which, incidentally, is thought to be home to a good deal of the world's earthquakes.

Sounds like another job for Johnson's rescue pilot Raymond Gaines! He'll be flying/running/punching things again, and we can apparently expect the return of Carla Gugino as Emma Gaines and Alexandra Daddario as Blake Gaines alongside Paul Giamatti's perma-worried seismologist Dr. Lawrence Hayes. Who, knowing his luck, will be studying the very location when it all goes trembly.

It's still early days, but Andreas director Brad Peyton and producer Beau Flynn are climbing back aboard. As to when this will happen? We wouldn't expect it before 2018, as Johnson has a busy schedule this year, including re-teaming with Peyton for the Rampage game adaptation.
