He’s played Agent Hobbs, the Scorpion King, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, and Maui – and now for his latest role, Dwayne Johnson is playing… The Rock! The wrestler-turned-Hollywood powerhouse is going back to the ring in Fighting With My Family, a comedy-drama based on the story of pro WWE wrestler Paige – and you can watch the first trailer right here.

Leading the film is Florence Pugh as Saraya, a girl who grows up obsessed in a wrestling-obsessed family and who gets her shot at the big-time – an opportunity that isn’t extended to her equally ambitious brother Zak. Along the way, the pair encounter Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who looks to be in hilariously OTT form, relishing the chance to channel his old wrestling persona once again. Also among the cast are the likes of Nick Frost as Saraya and Zak’s dad Ricky, Lena Headey as their mum Julia, and Vince Vaughn as WWE coach Hutch. Oh, and it’s written and directed by none other than Stephen Merchant.

If it all seems an unlikely combination of cast, story, and filmmaker, there are plenty of laughs and tons of charm in this first trailer – and drawing inspiration from Channel 4 documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family, it sounds like there’s a real dramatic story here. The film is due to hit UK cinemas on 1 March 2019.
