Since breaking big with the one-two punch of Aquaman and Watchmen Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's career has been a rocket of success. He's now teaming up with Dwayne Johnson for a new action thriller, albeit one that The Rock is only attached to produce. Abdul-Mateen, meanwhile, will be front and centre, starring in Emergency Contact.
Warner Bros. has been quick to pick up the pitch from writers Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, with the plot details mostly a secret, though The Hollywood Reporter has heard it's a high-concept, high-octane action film set amid the underground music scene in Austin, Texas.
This new project is backed by some of the people from Black Adam, which is in production – Haines and Noshirvani wrote the current script for that film, while Johnson will produce alongside regular collaborator, producer Beau Flynn. While Johnson doesn't currently plan to star in the film, but there's always a chance he could show up. As for Abdul-Mateen, he has Candyman and The Matrix 4 due out this year, and will be part of the cast for George Miller's Furiosa as well as returning for Aquaman 2.
