Dustin Hoffman Set For The Cobbler

For his latest film, The Cobbler, The Station Agent and Win Win writer-director Tom McCarthy has ensured that his cast should be as eclectic as possible. He already has Adam Sandler and Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens aboard and he has now added Method Man and Dustin Hoffman.

How the new additions fit into the plot is anyone’s guess, as McCarthy isn’t saying. But what we do know so far is intriguing: Sandler plays a shoe repair specialist who finds a way to integrate himself into the lives of his customers, though whether this means mystically or just by being a total nosey parker is anyone’s guess at this point. In the hands of others, we would be anticipating Click-style misadventures for Sandler, but that’s not McCarthy’s style. Instead, we predict a wry look at the world, some real drama and possibly some clever heartstring pulling.

McCarthy is busy at work on the film in New York right now. As for Hoffman, he’s also recently signed on to another indie drama, **Boychoir, and will be seen in Jon Favreau’s new low-budget comedy drama Chef. He’s also set to lend his voice to the third Kung Fu Panda film for DreamWorks Animation, currently scheduled for 2015.
