Dune Posters Find The Characters In Pensive Mood

Dune (2021)

Given that the film doesn't make its way to screens (big and small if Warners truly has its way) until October, we've understandably not seen too much recently about Denis Villeneuve's ambitious, actor-laden adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi tome Dune. Now, though, some character posters featuring a chunk of the main cast are online.

This is very much your standard feel of character posters - desaturated colours, stern visages and text over the faces – and honestly, while they have a classy sheen, there's something a little wanting about them. With luck, there will be a new trailer along soon to dazzle us all – we're still extremely excited to see what Villeneuve has achieved with the movie. Oh, and so far, the likes of Dave Bautista have been left off the poster list, but perhaps he'll get his shot in due time.

Dune takes place in a galaxy where the spice melange is what makes interstellar travel possible. It's mined on a backwater desert hellhole known as Arrakis, AKA Dune, and it's a place that the Emperor orders Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) to take over controlling. Off he heads with his concubine, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), a Bene Gesserit nun/witch with a penchant for prophecy, son Paul (Timothee Chalamet) and some loyal household members, including sword master Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa) and master-at-arms Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin).

Sadly for the Atreides family, it's a big ol' trap sprung by the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard), who previously controlled the planet, and wants it back – marshalling traitors and troops aplenty to help make that happen. With the Atreides family scattered, Paul falls in with the local population, known as Fremen, who have mastered life in the harsh sandy terrain. They're led by Stilgar (Javier Bardem), who is also father to Chani (Zendaya), a warrior among her people. They'll help guide Paul to what could be his destiny to exert his own control over the place, and figure out the huge, deadly sandworms that roam under the surface, looking to gobble up unwary travellers and machinery...

Dune will be in US cinemas and on HBO Max over in the States from 22 October, the same day as it opens theatrically in the UK.
