Thank goodness for happy endings! Maybe. I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, the comedy that sees a widowed firefighter (Kevin James) marry his best mate (Adam Sandler) in a pretend gay wedding so that he can get his pension benefits out of bureaucracy central and provided for his kids, has found a new director.

You’ll remember back in February that Wedding Crashers’ David Dobkin was all set to helm, before pulling the “creative differences” cord and jumping ship to Vince Vaughn’s crimbo comedy Fred Claus.

Now it looks like Sandler has been on the blower to his friend, director Dennis Dugan (Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy) and Dugan has agreed to step in.

It’s jut the latest in a long line of events in Chuck And Larry’s chequered history. Those with even longer memories will recall that it was originally called I Now Pronounce You Joe And Benny, way back when Will Smith was going to follow The Legend Of Bagger Vance by starring with Nic Cage in the comedy.

With a start date set for August, we’re keeping the champagne on ice. But we won’t pop until that film’s finally sitting in the can.
