You might not expect an undead cannibalism comedy drama to have lured Drew Barrymore into her first lead role in a TV series. But that's exactly what has happened with Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet, a twisted take on suburban life. Check out the red band trailer.
Named for the Los Angeles suburb where they make a quietly discontented life for themselves, the show stars Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as Sheila and Joel Hammond. Their world seems perfectly, blandly ordinary – they're real estate agents with kids and drive the usual SUV – until Sheila goes through a dramatic change.
Suddenly finding herself among the undead, Sheila discovers that there are new challenges, especially the fact that she has a craving for human flesh. But amongst the chaos, the couple also discovers new opportunities, as they decide to use her abilities for good. Or at least not screwing things up too badly...
With Nathan Fillion, Skyler Gisondo, Liv Hewson and Richard T. Jones also in the cast, Santa Clarita Diet launches in its entirety on Netflix on 3 February.
