A documentary film about kart racing is to be turned into a feature film with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the Transformers screenwriters, producing. A writer is due to be hired in the next few weeks to give Racing Dreams the feature treatment.
The original documentary follows three young men competing in the World Karting Association's National Pavement Series, where speeds can reach 70mph and successful drivers can find themselves launched towards a NASCAR career. Expect the film version to be something like Akeelah and the Bee to the original's Spellbound.
This comes in the wake of planned adaptations for documentaries like King of Kong and Crazy Love as well, making documentaries the new comics for Hollywood executives.
