After months of possible casting choices and guessed stars the much-sought-after role of Effie in musical Dreamgirls appears to have been won.
Jennifer Hudson, who was a finalist in the 2004 season of American Idol, has been telling the New York Daily News that she has won the role. For weeks, the leading contender has been Fantasia, the winner of the same season.
"I was sure Fantasia got the part. But they said they wanted me. They said I was born for this," Hudson told the Daily News.
Dreamgirls, based on a Broadway show, follows the Supremes-alike rise of an all-girl singing trio. The cast already features the likes of Beyonce Knowles as Deena Jones, Jamie Foxx as Curtis Taylor Jr, Eddie Murphy as James "Thunder" Early and Danny Glover as Marty Madison.
