The Last time Universal cracked the crypt and delivered a Dracula tale, the studio greenlit Van Helsing. And we all know how that turned out.

But now the creative bods have splashed hard cash on an intriguing new idea that plans to bring the world’s most famous vampire’s origin story to the screen once and for all.

Dracula Year Zero whisks together what’s historically known about Prince Vlad The Impaler, the charming slaughterphile most strongly linked with Bram Stoker’s creation and a healthy dash of made up Vampire mythology. Writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are weaving a story that will re-imagine (danger word alert!) the fanged fiend as more of a vengeful, romantic hero. Because deep down, all Dracula really wanted was the love of a good woman. Oh yeah, and to dreenk our blooood (insert your own cheesy cackle here).
