Dr. Dre, Marvin Gaye

The attempt to bring the life of soul master Marvin Gaye has been exasperating Hollywood for years now – the likes of Cameron Crowe and F. Gary Gray have come and gone in that time – but the endless foiled versions isn't putting off N.W.A. rapper-turned-business mogul, producer and occasional actor Dr. Dre. He's planning to give it a shot.

Gaye, who is still best known for hits such as What's Going On, Sexual Healing and Let's Get It On, was one if Motown's most successful artists but his life ended tragically when he was shot at the age of 44 in his Los Angeles home by his own father.

Dre (AKA Andre Young) will be aiming to secure the go-ahead from Gaye's family, which has so far shut down other attempts, including one by Jesse L. Martin, who wanted to play the man. We'll have to see if Dre's developed script and actor choice passes muster.
